I encourage our new members to get involved with ALCTS. There are many opportunities for you to participate and be part of this vibrant professional community. We need to ensure a pipeline for new leaders that will make ALCTS relevant, inclusive, diverse and—most importantly—welcoming to all.
Continue readingI began my library career in cataloging and metadata but eventually morphed into an electronic resources librarian about three years ago. I love electronic resources work—it’s mentally engaging, always involves solving a puzzle, puts me in contact with many parts of the library, and makes great use of my ability to read bibliographic records. Today I am electronic resources librarian at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where I lead a team of five that handles database trials, activates new electronic resources, and troubleshoots electronic resource access problems.
Continue readingThe ALCTS New Members Interest Group (ANMIG) is seeking volunteers to serve for 2018–2019. ANMIG has focused on the interest of new ALCTS members and information professionals since 2009. The group is charged with developing interest group meetings at ALA conferences, helping new members of ALCTS assimilate to the division, plan virtual events and share pertinent information to the larger library community. Currently, the positions of co-vice chair, student liaison, social media coordinator, and member-at-large. Continue readingYou know that saying that it takes a village to raise a child? Well the same thing can be said of ALCTS. It takes a village of library students, paraprofessionals, librarians, and staff to make this association as relevant today as it was 60 years ago. For decades ALCTS has continued to stay active as the library landscape morphs in different directions. I’m glad to be a part of ALCTS history by doing my part in helping this organization continue to thrive for years to come.
