New Research in Collection Management

The ALCTS Collection Management Section (CMS) sponsored the program “New Research in Collection Management and Development” at the 2019 ALA Annual Conference in Washington, DC. Librarians from the University of Denver Libraries reported on their efforts to diversify their collection with regards to Native American history and culture, and Shirleanne Ackerman Gahan of the University of Portland Clark Library reported on her research examining the types of books their users accessed.

CMS Forum: Shaping Collections to Meet Diverse Needs

The ALCTS Collection Management Section (CMS) Forum, titled “Rising to the Challenge: Shaping Collections to Meet Diverse Needs,” was held at the 2018 ALA Midwinter Meeting on Sunday, February 11. Forum speakers presented “real-life examples of current challenges faced by librarians when building and managing collections to meet the goals of the 21st century library.”

Collection Management & Research Forum: 2017 Annual Conference

The Eighth Annual Collection Management and Research Forum, sponsored by ALCTS and ALCTS Collection Management Section (CMS) was held at the 2017 ALA Annual Conference in Chicago, Illinois on Sunday, June 25. The forum focused on two projects. The first presentation was titled “DDA Beyond the Trigger: Evaluating the Sustainability and Use of an E-BOOK DDA Plan” and presented by Lindsay Barnett, the Collection Development and Assessment Librarian at the College of Charleston. The second presentation was “Citation Analysis of Communication Studies Journals: Actionable Knowledge for the Communication Librarian” and presented by Lisa Romero, the Communications Librarian and Associate Professor of Library Administration at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
