The Resource Description and Access (RDA) Toolkit Redesign Update and Preview took place at the 2018 ALA Midwinter Meeting on Friday, February 9. The day-long event provided a behind-the-scenes look at the progress of the RDA Toolkit Restructure and Redesign (3R) project and a chance to interact and ask questions of various RDA Steering Committee (RSC) members and RSC working group members.

Remembering John D. Byrum, 1940–2018

We write to pay tribute to the life and work of our friend and colleague John Donald Byrum, a leading figure in national and international cataloguing for many decades and a wise and valued mentor. His Washington Post obituary described him as a quiet and thoughtful man, and he was, but those of us who spent time with him in professional meetings and in private life knew him to be warm, witty, and convivial—the best of company and the best of friends.

ALCTS Endorses Acquisitions Core Competencies

The ALCTS Board of Directors has endorsed the “Core Competencies for Acquisitions Professionals” ourlining competencies that are needed across the span of an individual’s professional career to perform acquisitions functions. The intended audience for these competencies include students and new practitioners as well as managers and administrators who specialize or manage acquisitions functions in any library setting.
