Section: ALA Midwinter Meeting

About thirty people traversed the bridge to the Sheraton Denver Downtown’s Silver room for the presentation on Resource Access for the 21st Century (RA21), a collaboration between the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) and Scientific, Technical, and Medical Publishers (STM). The presentation took place during the 2018 ALA Midwinter Meeting on Sunday, February 11.

The OCLC Research Update took place at the 2018 ALA Midwinter Meeting on Monday, February 12, addressing recent and upcoming collaborative projects, pilots, and published reports from OCLC Research, its Research Library Partnership (RLP), and WebJunction. The session “OCLC Linked Data Roundtable: Stories from the Front” took place during the 2018 ALA Midwinter Meeting on Saturday, February 10. Approximately 75 people were in attendance for the session, which included three 10-minute presentations on the topic of linked data implementations, followed by a Q&A period.

The Resource Description and Access (RDA) Toolkit Redesign Update and Preview took place at the 2018 ALA Midwinter Meeting on Friday, February 9. The day-long event provided a behind-the-scenes look at the progress of the RDA Toolkit Restructure and Redesign (3R) project and a chance to interact and ask questions of various RDA Steering Committee (RSC) members and RSC working group members.

On the cold Monday of the 2018 ALA Midwinter Meeting, 21 people gathered together at the Denver Public Library for the workshop “Applying Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials (Manuscripts)” led by Alison Bridger (Wisconsin Historical Society), Jennifer Nelson (University of California, Berkeley), and Margaret Nichols (Cornell University).
