“A Collaborative Future for Libraries, Museums, and More: Chicago Collections and Lifelong Learning Across the Community” took place during the 2018 ALA Midwinter Meeting on Saturday, February 10, as part of the Symposium on the Future of Libraries. ALA and the Center for the Future of Libraries sponsored the program. Scott Walter of DePaul University was the single presenter, but two colleagues—Sarah Pritchard of Northwestern University and Mary Case of the University of Illinois at Chicago—were on hand to answer questions at the end.

Road Signs to the Future: What Trends Will Affect Your Library?

More than 90 participants from different types of libraries, vendors, and library schools attended “Road Signs to the Future: What Trends Will Affect Your Library?” The program was held on Sunday, February 11, during the 2018 ALA Midwinter Meeting as part of the Symposium on the Future of Libraries. The interactive session was led by Dr. Sara Duvall, district chair of Secondary Library Services for Ann Arbor Public Schools.

Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) At Large & Participants Meeting: 2018 Midwinter Meeting

The Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) At Large Meeting and Participants Meeting at the 2018 ALA Midwinter Meeting were combined into one 90-minute session that took place on Sunday, February 11. Topics for this combined meeting included general updates on the PCC directory and the Name Authority Cooperative Program (NACO), an overview of the new PCC Strategic Directions document, and a presentation on updates to Resource Description and Access (RDA) and the RDA Toolkit stemming from the RDA Restructure and Redesign (3R) Project.

Library of Congress BIBFRAME Update Forum

The Library of Congress BIBFRAME Update Forum took place at the 2018 ALA Midwinter Meeting on Sunday, February 11. With five speakers in total, this session provided a comprehensive overview of the state of BIBFRAME—the standard that will replace MARC—from the point of view of early adopters. Representatives from the Library of Congress (LC), Library Service Platform (LSP) providers, and linked open data projects discussed their experience using BIBFRAME and other frameworks.
