The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) is pleased to announce the release of the 2018 ALCTS Fundamentals Web Courses schedule. Focusing on the fundamentals of acquisitions, cataloging, collection assessment, collection development and management, electronic resources acquisitions, and preservation, the Fundamentals Web Courses are presented as a series of related online courses that cover the basics of library technical services skill areas and are held multiple times throughout 2018.

What colleagues influence your thought and practice as a technical services librarian? Nominate them so that their contributions to the field are recognized! The deadline for all award nominations is December 1, 2017.

Edited by Chris Diaz, digital publishing services librarian at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, this valuable book demonstrates how librarians can use their collection, licensing, and faculty outreach know-how to help students and their instructors address skyrocketing textbook prices.

The Nominating Committee for the 2018 ALA Election has nominated three ALCTS members to run for ALA Council in the upcoming 2018 election: Susan Broman, Whitney Buccicone, and Arthur F. Miller.

The ALCTS CaMMS Subject Analysis Committee announces the approval and release of a white paper, “A Brave New (Faceted) World: Towards Full Implementation of Library of Congress Faceted Vocabularies.” It contains suggestions and recommendations for next steps aimed at full-scale current and retrospective implementation of faceted vocabulary terms in bibliographic and authority metadata.
