  1. Robert Bratton says:

Kathy, I like this but I wonder if we could make it clear that people may choose to make a note about where they found a statement of responsibility. Could it be as simple as adding an example to RDA 2.17.3.5. Something like: “Editors and translator taken from page 42.”

    • Elizabeth O'Keefe says:

I think adding an example to 2.17.3.5 is a great idea. It’s obviously not mandatory, but if I were making a list of bibliographic works of mercy, it would include making a note to identify the source of an SOR when it doesn’t appear in the usual places on the resource.

      • Tracey L. Snyder says:

I support adding an example in 2.17.3.5.

      • Dominique Bourassa says:

I support this proposal. I am also fine with adding an example to 2.17.3.5. I wonder if we could also add an example to “2.17.3.4. Variant Forms of Names” to explain that a statement of responsibility might be more complete on the cover, for example, than on the title page.

        • Tracey L. Snyder says:

Following the model of RDA’s “Alra” example in 2.17.3.4:

          Transcribed by Milan Munclinger.
          Statement of responsibility: (Munclinger)

Just an idea. I suppose a case could be made that the full name (taken from the caption) is important for identification, especially if an AAP for Munclinger is not given.

  2. Tracey L. Snyder says:

I think this works. Thanks, Kathy. For the examples, though, should each SOR be in its own line, like in the 2.4.2.3 examples?

  3. Tina Shrader says:

I agree that adding an example would be a good idea, and I think the basic instruction is clear.

  4. Matthew Haugen says:

I think the proposed changes add a bit of needed clarity to RDA.

Could 2.4.2.2 also include something along the lines of “Make a note on the source of a statement of responsibility, if considered important for identification, access, or selection (see 2.17.3).”

  5. Elizabeth O'Keefe says:

Shouldn’t the example of a note:

    Transcribed by Milan Munclinger

also identify the source, i.e. the caption?)

  6. Tina Shrader says:

With the changes that have been suggested above, I think this proposal works.

  7. Matthew Haugen says:

I think the revised proposal works well and has covered the comments so far.
